Hey chaps, just wanted to say hi.

Another pithy early twentys Englishman here lending support to The National. I have been captivated by your music for just over a year now.

I could ramble on for many thousands of characters but I'll just say that Gospel is my favourite track. Not that there is a song that I dislike that is!

Hopefully I'll rear my head on this forum now and again. I look forward to chatting to the various other members in time.

Many regards,

My name's Ben and I currently reside in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. I'm moving out to San Diego, CA in June with my girlfriend. I am a screenwriter.

I got into The National after hearing them pop up on my Okkervil River Pandora radio channel. I remember watching the music video for 'Mistaken for Strangers' on Youtube. Boxer was mine a little later, then I went to Alligator, followed by the purchase of 16 songs on ep's, singles, and such, and then the self-titled album, and finally Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers.

Obsession would be a good word to describe my feelings toward The National. They've moved up to the top three with Nirvana and Pearl Jam in terms of my own personal musical royalty.

Top three right now (changes frequently): Slow Show, All The Wine, Rest of Years

And I've seen them live, once, in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theater last month.

hi all,

Been a huge fan of The National for ages, had hesitated joining but wanted to see more about tour dates and other news.

I'm from Australia, Sydney, and last saw them in I believe late Dec at Angel Place City Recital Hall w/Clogs. I'm desperate for them to come back. Am considering a stint in Canada next yr and will hopefully get to catch them then too.

About me, female, 24, music journo, poet, daydreamer and psych student smile.gif

my fave? Cherry Tree EP - About Today, live version esp, Fake Empire, Wasps Next, Daughters of the Soho Riots, Secret Meeting

xox

Welcome, Carrie. Is that a PJ Harvey reference in your username?

I joined this forum a while ago, then exams came along, and I gave up. But I saw The National live at the RFH for the first time, and no surprises, they blew me away, and reminded me they're one of my favourite bands. So I'm re-joining! I'm going to love this forum.

I wonder if I'll be able to find my original introduction...

Hello!
I'm Tomas from Spain (Vigo), but living in England (Reading)
Monday was my third time, and have to say that was awesome... Was desperate trying to find a ticket, when on monday tried on the Royall Hall website and to my surprise there was tickets! Discovered TN in 2007, and went to see them In Shepperd's Bush in November, great show (not as good as on monday though). Then some fiends were going to see Morrissey in the O2 festival last year, they asked me to go...when I realised that TN was also playing that night I couldn't say no! they do not know I didn't care too much about Moz, I just wanted to see TN again! Great show again... Have they done a bad show sometime! I doubt it!
Any other Londoner o spanish people in the forum???

Ah danke schon! Wow, that was almost 2 years ago...I can't believe how silly I sounded then (and I'll probably be making the same remark two years down the line about this post). But I now see how to find your earlier posts, which is good. And I'm very very happy to be back smile.gif

hello

My names Rich. I'm nearly 20 and I'm a long time listener, but first time poster (?). I've just moved from England to the Highlands in Scotland. A very nice place indeed.

Some may call me a musician...well, a musician with an ability to write music, but sadly not lyrics.

My first 'National' experience came a few years ago when I stumbled upon a very cheap, however very damaged copy of the Alligator 12". Damage aside, the record blew me away and has since found its way to the heart of my record collection.

Berninger's personal and emotional lyrics remind of a small British band called Hope Of The States(who have now split.) I had the privilege of seeing the band live on two occasions including one of the last shows before the split and the band were far superior live than on record. I haven't yet had the chance to see The National live, but from what i've heard, the band perform in a similar 'epic' way to HOTS. Hopefully i'll have a chance to see them when they promote the upcoming album.

I remember Hope Of The States. I bought Black Dollar Bills when it was released (another Planet Sound recommendation), then Enemies / Friends and had really high hopes for them. While I never got to see them live, I heard universally brilliant reviews - the violin parts definitely bring Padma Newsome to mind. However, I felt the album The Lost Riots was a great disappointment, and so I didn't pick up Left when that came out.

The National are fantastic live. Definitely see them when you can, and welcome!

Hi!

My name is Nicolas, I'm 17 and I'm from Colombia (south America)... and I consider a miracle the fact that around three I was stumbling upon music on the internet and I heard "Fake Empire", I instantly fell in love with the band and now I've got all their records smile.gif
Still.. I haven't been able to see the band perform sad.gif... so I'm hoping for a latin american tour or for traveling abroad and be SO lucky to match dates and go see the band!

Hi- Terra Cotta Jockey here. Just joined. Loved The National from the first time I heard them-but it has only been a couple years. Was lucky to catch them in Minneapolis during the summer. Glad to "talk" with other fans. Not many here in the midwest.... although they packed the house.

1. I'm Tim and new as well. I just saw them for the first time this past weekend (sep. 12) at the university of illinois where i go to school. awesome show. been a fan for about a year and a half when they were suggested by pandora or last fm or something like that. probably wouldn't have joined if it weren't for that damn nationary thread...

2. high five to terra cotta jockey! my parents live just outside the twin cities and i didn't know they were playing there until the week after. i was at the mall with my girlfriend when i read a newspaper saying there were in town like 4 days earlier and she made fun of me because of how sad i was after i found out i missed them. all turned out for the best but i would've loved to see them at first ave. its a pretty great place

I'm Chelsea from Seattle. I've known of the National for a couple of years, but have only really become quite obsessed over the past few months. Many songs on Boxer are quickly working their way into my itunes top 25. Alligator is awesome as well and I still need to get their older two albums.

At the UW in Seattle, you can go to one of the libraries and listen to all the recordings of the Crocodile Café from mid-2002 through December 2007. The National played the Crocodile twice back in 2005 and I spent some of this afternoon listening to those shows. Totally amazing. I will always kick myself for going to see them in July 2007 and leaving early. Grr.

Can't wait for my growling lion shirt and Mr. November pin to arrive in the mail this week! It would be fun to know some other fans of The National who live in Seattle if they're out there.
