It'll be June 7, the National. Unless I get tickets to see the Dalai Lama this weekend, and I don't think I will. Plus, that's not exactly a gig. ph34r.gif

Heh yeah, Brassland love etc. It should be a fun evening.

what did you think of Portishead? I really like third so i was pleased!

Enjoy Nick Cave. What a legend. I think "i'm f*cked up and he is a f*cker" might be the best lyric of the year

It was a great concert, I was really excited about it, been a big portishead fan for (way too) many years now. Beth was awesome, she actually addressed the audience a few times. happy.gif guess she's less shy... or was just happy, I don't know.

Third was a grower to me and I came to enjoy it quite a lot. Machine gun, we carry on and threads were real killers live!

This was our (blessed) setlist:

Silence
Hunter
Mysterons
The Rip
Glory Box
Numb
Magic Doors
Wandering Star
Machine Gun
Over
Sour Times
Only You
Nylon Smile
Cowboys

Encore:

Threads
Roads
We Carry On

* the thing she did at the end of wandering star... my god.

i'm pretty sure they didnt change the setlist all tour. It was all pretty amazing ... the "forever and everrrr" bit on Glory Box was off the scale incredible. Also, machine gun is killer live and the song about white horses of Third was so, so beautiful...

anyway, i just got in from seeing Blonde Redhead/Holy Fuck. Blonde Redhead were amazinnng - their atmosphere really really comes to life live - and Holy Fuck were possibly the best opening act i've ever ever seen. Poor old Devastations got completely blown out of the water.

Next gig - My Brightest Diamond on Monday - Shara Worden's playing solo! biggrin.gif

ps. by the way Klagg - the Elbow gig back in Feb was really really special. It was in an old victorian library ... strings + fugative motel = love. I saw the Arcade Fire there last year and the sound was pooorrr but it was spot on for Elbow. needless to say we've all heard The Seldom Seen Kid and its one of the years best without a doubt....

Only today did I realize what you meant by "Brassland love": went to check the Devastations label... and the song I picked for the mix we set up for the band was theirs... well, at least it belonged to their first album, Munster label. I remember checking before choosing that song and noticing that their last album was Beggars'. Jesus, what a mess. mellow.gif

hahah sorry, it was a bit of a random one on my part.

I dont think devastations went down too well.... their bassist also looks like he's only moments away from intimately making out with his instrument. Quite worrying.

klagg- 04-29-2008
Vampire Weekend on Thursday.

I'm not a massive fan of the album and not really looking forward to it that much. Has anyone seen them live, they any good?

Mozart Face- 04-29-2008
I haven't seen them live but I preferred the daytrotter stuff if it's any consolation.

Rahaha- 04-30-2008
i'm supposed to be going to a gig tonight but i dont think i can manage it... But i did go and see My Brightest Diamond on monday. Shara was backed with a string quartet (who where The Reasons of Clare & The Reasons) and the venue involved a really nice pub with the downstairs room basically being a living room with a bar. And My Brightest Diamond playing in it.

Amazing show!

Mozart Face- 04-30-2008
Sunset Rubdown in Manchester. I haven't been this excited about a gig since I first saw the National. That could possibly be an overstatement, but I'm still tremulous with anticipation.

copperlewis- 05-06-2008
Gravenhurst tonight in Leeds
