Rosemary - no, I haven't. It sounds lovely but I heard it was rather expensive and held off for now.

Yeah, it was. I couldn't really afford it and at the same time, I had to have it!
I just got Northline, the second novel by Willy Vlautin, the singer/songwriter for Richmond Fontaine. It comes with a "soundtrack" - a CD of mostly instrumental (there's some vocalizing but no words) music he composed to go along with the book. It's really good. I like the Richmond Fontaine stuff that I've heard but I find them a little bit of a downer. Which may be ironic, considering how much I like Mark Kozelek, but I'm nothing if not self-contradictory.

Rosemary - would you do me a favor? I have read over numerous sites what the lyrics to most of April are but I still am not exactly clear about one line in particular. Could you tell me if Mark is saying "They end these lost verses" in the opening track about midway through? The only complaint I have with Mark's records are that often the music seems to drown out his wonderful lyrics.

Agreed - I've had many headslapping moments when I finally figured out what he was actually saying. I bought the book because "Salvador Sanchez" was driving me quietly insane. I'll look it up tonight (I'm at work and the book is home) and post tomorrow.

Woo! Thanks in advance, Rosemary
Btw, have you been able to get into Down Colorful Hill? That is my next Kozelek record to digest and I wasn't too moved back when I first heard some of the songs.

Check your message box for the lyrics. I've been with RHP pretty much from the get-go and Down Colorful Hill was the record that got me into them, so it's definitely a favorite. I particularly like the title track, "Japanese to English," "Lord Kill the Pain" and "Michael." (OK, that's most of the album isn't it?)

Thanks again, Rosemary!
From what little listening I've done, Japanese To English was the standout. I'll have to bring it out again soon for a proper listen
