El Jefe - heard one of the guys from Doves on the radio last week and he said they'll have nothing out till 2008.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

Kasabian & Arcade Fire (Glastonbury coverage on BBC); also some Bloc Party earlier. All excellent stuff.

Looking forward to The National taking their rightful place as headliners at the pyramid stage next year.

Brakesbrakesbrakes - Finally got a real copy of Beatific Visions and had no idea there was an extra track tacked on the north american release.

cool, witching hour is a great song.

Okkervil River - The Stage Names. It has leaked. I am happy.

edit -- bah, now that I've actually heard it in its entirety, it's definitely a step down from Black Sheep Boy, which I guess was to be expected. As far as country-rock goes, which is basically where this album falls, The Snake The Cross The Crown did it so much better.

Anna Ternheim - Shoreline

The original is so much better, in my opinion.

i lol'd at your last post too klagg, cuz i can't either.

so Pioneer and Fake Empire battle it out for best opener of the year. hmmm, i might nod to Pioneer atm, but it's still so new so has the advantage.

Boxer and OLTA in the same year is really wow. we're so lucky.

'our love to admire' has turned out to be an interesting album for me. i've been looking forward to it but when i heard it i was immensely disappointed as i found it to be entirely lacking in melody. however ... i've perservered and bang! three days later i'm enjoying it tremendously. 'pioneer ...' is an amazing opener and a fantastic song indeed. there's definitely two fillers on the album though - 'the scale' and 'who do you think' will never redeem themselves and completely lack in quality. i'm so glad i didn't write it off after my initial listen!

New Pornos - Challengers

man, this sounds so good, why don't we just make it the best cd of the year right now and thank everyone else for coming out.

This must be the strongest year for new music since , I dunno 2003 with Meadowlands, Feast of Wire and Hello Starling.

I'm pretty torn on the album so far. It seems about half of the album sees them taking their sound in a much different direction -- Wrecking Ball, Lighthouse, Pioneer. And the other half is basically a compromise between their first two albums. I didn't find myself skipping any tracks, per se...in fact I thought the majority of the songs were instantly likable -- but it's almost as if they would have been better off cutting 1/2 of it and releasing this as an EP.
