2 CD purchases this week - Elliott Smith's New Moon and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Baby 81"

What’s the ‘new’ Elliott Smith like? I’m not normally a fan of pillaging the archives after someone dies, but might make an exception in this case?

Yeah, I had mixed feelings about the release at first. Most of the songs are pretty much finished versions of songs that, despite being great, didn't end up "fitting" into Either/Or -- those are the ones I found to be the most enjoyable. Disc One is filled with superb songs (Angel In the Snow and Looking Over My Shoulder are the first to come to mind)that rank with the best he's released -- I react to them as if I had known and loved them all my life, despite hearing them for the first time.

There are others, like an early version of Miss Misery, that were interesting, but felt a bit awkward. Other tracks are pretty much taken from his Heatmiser days, so don't feel in step with his solo material.

Overall, I pretty highly recommend it.

Dont mention that! I was hoping to see them together here in Bristol but now have to go to Leipzig for work. Hoping for some more Maps dates later this year.

Ladyhawk - War

Men of the world hear the drums in the distance
Blaring the beat from the streets of the suburbs
Go it alone it’s a suicide mission
Would you be happy with anything else

No don’t just tag along
Start a war if you want to
No don’t just tag along
Start a war if you want to

Men of the world see the city walls crumble
Run for the cover of bunkers and basements
Long are the hours that fade into capture
Could you me happy with anything else

No don’t just tag along
Start a war if you want to
No don’t just tag along
Start a war if you want to

No sirens call and no bombs should fall
?????
No soldiers die and babies cry
We’ll down our arms enough to ????

No don’t just tag along
Start a war if you want to
No don’t just tag along
Start a war if you want to

Chikita Violenta - The Stars and Suns Sessions.

wow again. This sounds like the last Broken Social Scene record, but like, much better.

I don't think I could name one Mexican Indie band before this.

They were my obsession before The National came along and sent my interest in all other bands down the gutter. It'll be hard for me to rekindle the same level of interest in them, but I still think they are one of the better bands going today.
