We've got a few in common, actually.

1. The National - Boxer
2. Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City
3. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
4. LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver
5. Kings of Leon - Because Of The Times
6. Panda Bear - Person Pitch
7. Beirut - Lon Gisland EP
8. Battles - Mirrored
9. Bjork - Volta
10. Jamie T - Panic Prevention.

I also really like Dan Deacon's Spiderman Of The Rings and Devin Townsend Presents Ziltoid The Omniscient, but I left them off for the sake of having a nice round 10.

dapple papple- 06-01-2007
haha - whatever floats your boat, Milk. hey, and you're just like in the middle of a Neutral Hotel away from being my dreamboat.

i've been meaning to unzip Battles and Bjork. thanks.

Nice lists, although I sense that many lists will look roughly the same. Don't have as much time as I would like at the moment, but off the top of my head, I found these to be at least semi-enjoyable, if not more so (in no particular order):

The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters (likely to be a top 5 for me)
The Handsome Furs - Plague Park (enjoyable, not sure how well it will stick)
The Besnard Lakes - ...Are The Dark Horse (inconsistent, but some good moments)
The Broken West - I Can't Go On, I'll Go On (under rated, and I'm glad I'll be seeing them open for The National)
Menomena - Friend And Foe (probably under rated because it came out so early in the year. A bit too experimental for my tastes, though)
The National Lights - The Dead Will Walk Dear (probably the best pure acoustic album to come out this year -- maybe, perhaps, meh who am I to say)
Feist - The Reminder (over rated, but it doesn't offend me. Plus she's Canadian)

Of course if you've already heard these and just didn't like them enough to list them, I'd understand that as well. I'm assuming you've heard Wilco's Sky Blue Sky and just didn't like it. I'll try to come up with a personal list at some point, but maybe not this month. There's still too much I'm looking forward to -- Spoon (which I've already heard, but don't want to speak of too much until its released), New Pornographers, Okkervil River, Interpol are just a few huge ones for me.

dapple papple- 06-01-2007
oh yeah, i need to hear Wilco's still too. super year.

as far as revising your list in a month, i fully anticipate mine to change after Interpol and (supposedly) Radiohead come out, among others that i don't even know about. so, yes, the idea here is for them to evolve.

Suprised to see Arcade Fire in so many lists, I thought it was a big let down - but that's just me

Milk- 06-01-2007
So I'm not the only person who was disappointed by Neon Bible. I loved Funeral, but I just felt like NB lacked the charm and earnestness that made it so special. Bigger doesn't necessarily equal better - it just seemed so transparent and one-dimensional in the way it tried to inspire an emotional response. Intervention and No Cars Go are the only two tracks I really enjoy, and both predate the album. I still think they have a lot of potential, and it's always gonna be hard to follow up an album like Funeral, but I found Neon Bible pretty shallow and contrived. I wouldn't say no to seeing them live, mind, but I wish I enjoyed the album more.

For me it's still to early to tell... There has been a lot of albums that I've really enjoyed so far but I can't really tell which is the best one yet... I mean, what if Radiohead releases their new on this year?

Yeah, it just kinda chugs along not really going anywhere. It was always going to be hard following funeral but i never expected such a stinker. What amazed me was the hype around the time of release - people camping for days for tickets, £200 tickets on ebay!!! Wasn't there even a south bank show special??????????

allthewine- 06-02-2007
There's still a ton of stuff I've been highly anticipating this year that hasn't come out, but it would look something like this as of now:

The National - Boxer
Derek Webb - The Ringing Bell
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Kings of Leon - Because of the Times
Blonde Redhead - 23

Milk- 06-02-2007
Picked up Andrew Bird's Armchair Apocrypha today. I've been hearing good things for months, and Dapple Papple's list just convinced me to give it a go. I'm happy I did, it's a very good album, so, thanks. Given a bit more time, I could definitely see it becoming one of my favourites of 2007.
A lot of the records I've been anticipating are out, now - just the new Radiohead, Beirut and Animal Collective albums to look forward to. Still, the Radiohead album is the seminal release of the year for me, I can't wait for that.

re Neon Bible.

I like it. The instrumentation of all things massed: stings, horns and voices. And the pipe organ??? Whoa. To me that just yells Anglo-Montreal and its dying Anglican, United and Presbyterian churches.

Winn Butler's a great lyricist and his voice has a real passion behind it. I get tired of bullshit, detached singers and he ain't one of those. There's also an obvious New Order feel. That silly NYC hipster band Interpol gets compared to Joy Division but this is the real heir to JD's dark mystique. I also hear Dylan, Sprinsteen, Bowie and deep folk/gospel/roots parts. All the same, this is Arcade Fire, it will not be mistaken for anything else.

I dunno. Neon Bible's just awesome and by that, I mean I am in awe of it. I really liked Funeral and I did not expect Arcade Fire to blow us all away with this one - but I swear they've gone even beyond that.

Arcade Fire heir's to JD - am I missing something?????????

Surely you must accept that Funeral is better than NB - it's a different class

Each to his own I guess
