I had heard of them before, but just assumed it was another "The" indie band I didn't care about. I heard some of the tracks off of their new sophomore album Mission Control and wow. Totally kickass garage rock trio. This is an album you can just put in, rock out to and enjoy without worrying about stereotypes or anything that dominates music today. I described them a friend as a mix between Wolfmother and The Strokes, and I think that's pretty accurate.

Probably my favorite album of 08 so far actually.

Mission Control is an excellent album. The Whigs will be opening for the Drive-By Truckers this winter/spring. I'd have to say the new Truckers album, Brighter Than Creation's Dark, is a better effort than Mission Control.

They are an incredibly fun live band, definitely see them if you ever get the chance. I think the new one is very hit-or-miss. The slow songs are pretty much all misses, I hate the production that makes the singer sound like Dave Grohl. The straight-up rock songs on the album are almost all really good. Their debut album was a bit more consistent, but both are pretty good.

Thanks for the advice on their first disc. I had been wondering I should pick that one up too. I agree that the slow songs are growers on Mission Control but Production City, Right Hand On My Heart and Hot Bed are some of the best songs I've heard this year. Only thing I've heard from the debut is Technology, which I love.

I'd imagine they'd be a lot of fun live, and I might see them open up for the Drive-By Truckers next month, even though I've never listened to the Truckers. I described them a little bit like an American Wolfmother, whom I saw last year.

Their debut is worth picking up IMO. Technology is definitely the poppy-est song they have done, it's a great track. When I first heard Mission Control I was sure I liked the debut better, but now I think they are neck and neck. The debut has less straight up rock on the album, but is a bit more consistent.

If you're a fan of Misson Control I think it is safe to assume you will also enjoy Give 'Em All A Big Fat Lip.

My personal favorite from Mission Control is the obvious, Like a Vibration, probably my favorite track of the year so far, great rock song.
