About Today

that is character-for-character what the band wrote down. I did take a bunch of photos and even some videos, but they are on my friend's camera... I should get them next week.

It's hard for me to say how accurately they stuck to the setlist as I wasn't a massive fan beforehand, and only really knew the Cherry Tree EP. Having since listened to the albums, I could have sworn that they played Lit Up.. oh well..

I wish they would start considering playing Blank Slate sometime soon. It's such a great song and it should be a killer live.

allansson- 01-17-2008
While we're at it, why don't we wish for Tall Saint. I'd kill to hear it live.

About Today

I was the guy right in front in the blue shirt...Matt made a point of coming back after initial set before the encore with an extra, full bottle of wine to give to me before they started playing. For the record - the rest of the band were drinking water or beer and matt was drinking Mad Fish premium white wine. He's a god.

shane_fringe- 01-19-2008
Oh and also to add to my above post - I was there for the soundcheck but probably came in half way through, as all I heard was a full rehearsal of Gospel

About Today

Great show, sonically fantastic but that's due to the terrible venue - the least rock-show space for a rock-show you could think of. Bryan (I think) mentioned at some point that initially they were afraid of making noise in such a hushed space, as if it would be blasphemous. Just a big quiet modern theatre, all seated, with a lot of people clearly there because it was part of the Sydney Festival and they got their tickets this morning in the last-minute-cheap-sell-off 10 seconds after they first heard of the band.

The guys went to the beach today, so Matt's anecdote went, and the "liberally applied" suncream left him with a bizarre pattern of sunburn that resembled a treasure map. Later when he disappeared for a moment without anyone knowing where he'd gone, he came back and remarked that he'd found Bluebeard's treasure. "You have a different sun to the one we have in Brooklyn", he said.

Padma's sister was playing for a few tunes.

I would've liked City Middle or All The Wine but really, can't complain at all. I just hope they come back and play the Metro or somethin' next time. Seriously - a guy was going up the aisle selling tubs of ice cream. The silence between songs was excruciating. The lack of head-bopping was dismal!
