You should see "Once" if it is coming to your town.

Once

It is a great story and includes some really great music. It stars Glen Hansard the lead singer of the Frames. (great band, if you like the National you will probably like the Frames).

Yeah, if you didn't like the style of Surpremacy you might not like Ultimatium as much as I did. It is refinied, but still a little over the top at moments, typically when their is not action going on but the camera is still shaking. Overall it is a great film though, and if you liked the first one, I don't see how you could dislike the final instalment.

I haven't seen Ultimatum yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Tales from Earthsea looks like its gonna be great. I love Studio Gibili...

Oh, and my favouite movies are:
Lost In Translation
Amielie
Donnie Darko
Spirted Away
Princess Mononoke
Pulp Fiction
many many others...

Hasn't TFE been released already. Or has it only been in Japan?

I love Princess Mononoke. Anime at it's best. Spirited Away was also great but it doesn't quite reach up to the levels of Mononoke.

Saw 'Howl's Moving Castle' a few weeks back. Also a great movie.

TFE is out, but none of the cinemas around me are showing it...

My neibhour Totoro is also cool an the adorable kinda way...

Can't wait to see Once ~~ heard it's really good. We're watching (on DVD) Children of Men right now, primarily b/c I read an interview with Matt in which he said he liked it. (Same reason I'm now reading Joan Didion's Play It As It Lays. I'm a dork, what can I say...)

Children of Men is dark and depressing as hell so far, but really good (CLIVE OWEN can do no wrong, nor can Michael Caine for that matter).

Of COURSE I agree with anybody who picks Royal Tennenbaums, Rushmore and Bottle Rocket as all-time favorites. Another really good, "quiet" movie I loved recently (from 2005 though) was "The Girl in the Cafe," with some young female actress and this old British guy Bill Nighy (Notes on a Scandal, The Constant Gardener). It's a very funny, sweet romance, but don't let that deter you. It's set, interestingly, at the G8 Summit in Iceland. Political, funny, sad, surprising.

The Squid & the Whale is good in a low-key Wes Anderson kind of way. I also love A History of Violence, mainly b/c we get to see Viggo Mortensen kick some major butt.

I'll think of more later--there are so MANY, b/c that's all we DO anymore what with the 3-year-old. Rent DVDs, that is. That and go to a National show once or twice a year.

I watched it the other day and it was great. Don't ask me how I got a hold of it (let's just say that what I did is frowned upon by those who know the law blink.gif ) but I did, and it's a close second after Mononoke-hime when it comes to anime.

I saw Reno 911 Miami the other day. It was hilarious. I'm probably gonna watch it again in a couple of days... Anyone seen it?

Ooh! I'm all excited about it now!! biggrin.gif

It makes me so happy to see non-irish people talking about Once.
It's so great to see Irish films make a splash out there...

I'm a big fan of Shane Meadows films. I Love the gritty realism, seriousness and humour all rolled up into his films. 'TwentyfourSeven' was on UK TV last friday. Class stuff if you like a good gritty drama.

Still haven't seen This Is England but his previous film, Dead Man's Shoes is one my favourite movies. Plus I think Paddy Considine is an amazing actor.

Anyone seen Kung Fu Hustle? - I frickin love that film. I think there's gonna be a sequel coming out next year - cant wait!

Also - anyone ever seen the rap Spinal Tap, "Fear Of A Black Hat"? It's amazingly funny

klagg- 08-23-2007
I've just watched The Simpsons film, its OK, nothing special. If it was a new episode of the Simpsons it would be seen as a good episode. If it was a Simpsons episode from about 7 years ago when The Simpsons was in its prime then its a pretty average episode.

What do people make of the ideas for the 24 movie? I can't see how it will work, because the whole point of the show is that each episode ends in a cliffhanger and there are so many twists. I think it would be difficult to incorporate all that in roughly two hours. Plus one of the main appeals to 24 is that it's all in real time. The other thing I have an issue with is making it a prequel to the very first series, given how much Kiefer Sutherland in particular has aged. I just don't think the film's a very good idea.
