i agree, babel was a great movie. i was drawn in throughout the whole movie. the acting was great from everyone, especially from the non actors. which shows you how talented the director is. the music in it was awesome to..i ended up buying the soundtrack, its worth checking out. id give babel 5/5
and 5/5 for pans labyrinth also, completely original. i know that alien thing with the eyes was insane, its the sort of scene u see in dreams but cant remember the next morning.
yea i know what u mean about scanner darkly. its not a great great movie, but its definately fun and entertaining.....and trippy.

I was really disappointed by Babel. Compared to the genius of Amores Perros ,it was a real let-down. Too long, self important, and didn’t really say much.

Pans Labyrinth, on the other hand, is fantastic. I watched it again the other night, and it’s still wonderful.

I agree. Babel was disappointing. The Japanese storyline was completely irrelevant.

Pan's Labyrinth was spectacular, as was the Lives Of Others, which beat it to the Foreign Language Oscar of course.

Anyone seen Following? It's the first Christopher Nolan film, and has more twists than Memento. Definitely worth a look if you can find it.

fair enough, i really liked it though. everyone is entitled to their opinion. and we all get different things from movies. i thought it was completely relevant, i mean the japanese girl was DEAF. the movie is about communication (e.g the tower of babel). and the difficulty she had interracting with her dad and other people her age not deaf was obviously relevant with the movie. its comparison with (brad pitts/cate blanchett) storyline. americans in a foreign country. plus the gun was previously owned by her father. im going to see the lives of others on monday it looks good. nolans movies are awesome. i want to see it now. is it very old?, i have a feeling my lame video shop wont have it.

I think it's from 1998.

OK, what I meant was all the nudity and stuff in the Japanese sequences was a bit pointless and they could have told any other story and that would have seemed more feasible. I wasn't criticising the communication comparison, because that made sense.

I rented Following from the Blockbuster website having read good reviews. Couldn't find it in any rental branch, but I'm sure it's in Virgin / HMV for a reasonable price. Cost me £4 when I bought it. It's only 70mins and in B&W due to budget, but definitely watch it if you can.

Didn't think it was too bad, but that's because I have a tolerance for recent Harry Potter films given the atrocity of the first two in particular. I just find Hermione so irritating though. Still, the effects were pretty damn good.

Obviously the films are nothing on the books... Not long now!

o ok yea. i can understand how you would feel that way. i thought those scenes brought a substantial realistic authenticity to her character. she was extremely vulnerable and confused with sexuality. and she had extreme difficulty expressing herself/"picking up". which i can understand once being younger in high school. then again i dont recall flashing my stuff to any chicks dry.gif ?!?! i guess her character was an extreme case. and we are forgetting how well she acted omgolly was she nominated for an oscar or anything? sweet i think i will buy it. im looking forward to seeing it. did u like prestige?

I agree with that. Everything she does just seems a little fake. The movie in general though was pretty good. I liked the mood of this one, better than the others.

Saw Pan's labyrinth a few days ago and at first I could say that it was strange, but when you think about it you realise that it is a pretty awesome movie. 8.5/10 from me.

I really liked the last Harry Potter-movie (Goblet of Fire). It was a whole lot darker than the first three. I haven't seen the latest, but my hope is that it's even darker.

But it will probably suck...

Mozart Face- 07-14-2007
I still think the 4th Harry Potter film is the best, but that's because it's one of the better books. The Problem with order of the Phoenix is not that much seems to happen until towards the end. Book Six I thought was the worse so far, as it was just a precursor to the final part, but it will be interesting to see what they do with the film.

Thought Prestige was OK, but the worst of the Nolan films, including Batman, which I guess isn't typical of his style. I just expected the final pieces of the puzzle to be much more clever, and I saw past a part of it, but I won't say what it is on the forum because I'm sure not everyone's seen the film and I don't want to be unfair.

I know its old, but i've just seen Donnie Darko. Can anyone explain to me what the hell is going on at the end? I don't want to spoil it for someone who hasn't watched it yet but... either its very simple and sort of stupid or I'm missing something.

I'd say I'm missing something. Has anyone any interpretations?

Spoiler:

A long time since I saw it, but didn't he find a maskhole in which he travelled back through time and saved the girl he loved by letting the jetmotor kill him?
