I caught Rushmore and Bottle Rocket (both directed by Wes Anderson) yesterday for the first and second time respectively. Rushmore was very awkwardly funny and had some of Anderson's most enjoyable characters, and Bottle Rocket was far more enjoyable second time around, Owen Wilson's great in it. The dialogue is just so brilliantly crafted. Anderson has this remarkable ability to create characters that aren't necessarily likeable, but you end up really rooting for them. I'm probably gonna re-watch The Royal Tenenbaums tonight, too.

Got dragged along to Pirates of the Caribbean 3 the other week. And it's horrible. At 3 hours long, it's possibly the most self-indulgent film I've seen. Eee it makes my toes curl just thinking about that. I mean, I love pirates in general, but that was just bad. Even keith richards was average sad.gif

On a happier note (well, kinda) is anyone dead dead excited about the Joy Division film coming out in september?

I must admit that I have no expactations on POTC3, but it's still a movie I've gotta see. I think that the first one was good, the second average but with a terrible ending and now the third one is a must see, just to close the whole series of films. Kind of like Ep. 1 - 3 in the Star Wars-saga.

I chanced up Spinal Tap on TV the other night, and watched it to the end, despite having watched the DVD at least a dozen times.

Comedy genius all the way through. If (as a music fan) you haven’t seen it, I can’t recommend it highly enough. It goes to 11.

Watched Die Hard 4.0 (or Live Free or Die Hard, as you americans call it) and it was rather good. Maybe not mindblowing, but if you want to kill some time or if you're dying to see a decent action-movie, I'd recommend it.
Spider-Man 3 was a big disappointment...

I'm gonna watch Zodiac now. Hope it is as good as I think it is.

Is the bit where he jumps onto (and off of) a flying fighter jet as realistic as it looks on the adverts?

I don't know how realistic it looked in the adverts, but it was done with a real sized model of the plane... so I guess it looks kind of real. I saw a making of program on TV a few weeks ago, where they said that many people hade complained about the crew having done a lot of the special effects with computer (car - helicopter crash, freeway collapse and the fighter jet) which was strange because all those scenes were done with real veichles and models.

I really loved it. I can see how it's easy to get obsessed with solving the case. The scene in the basement is really creepy... I actually thought my heart was gonna leap out of my chest like an alien or something.

After I watched the movie I went online checking up on the Zodiac Killer, and apparentely they've DNA tested the man who Robert concludes is the killer and it wasn't a match. Altough the testing was only done with a partial DNA-sample from some of the Zodiacs letters.

I've seen Pans Labyrinth, Babel and A Scanner Darkly.

Scanner Darkly was good, but not terrific. It feels like it's missing something, although I have no idea what that is.

Babel on the other hand is amazing. I remember I saw it in a theater, and it was so intense. I remember walking out at the end of the movie and seeing a poster for it, which contained one word for it's tagline: Listen!
It's amazing how that one word can sum up the whole movie. If everybody in it had just stopped to listen to one another, nothing would've really gone wrong.

And then there's Pans Labyrinth. Truly extraordinary. I love this kind of fantasy-movie, where realism goes head-to-head with surrealism. And don't get me started with that scene in the dining room with that guy/monster/creep with eyes on his hand.
The movie propably also contains the most graphic violence I've ever seen.

I can't recall having seen any of the others, but it's possible that they were titled differently in swedish or something.
