I just saw 'No Country For Old Men' and really enjoyed it. It has a different kind of pace and feeling than most other movies these days.

I saw Shoot em up this weekend, it was pure entertainment all the way through.  biggrin.gif

Oh god, it's so fornicating awesome. You just have to wait a few minutes (excruciatingly long time, don't you think?) and then the action starts and just doesn't stop.

The beginning was enjoyable as well, but now that you mention it... It's actually true that the action hardly ever stops after that ohmy.gif
Movies like this, that are totally unrealistic require the brain to be in a special state. You can't sit there and criticise everything, I sat there and simply enjoyed every outrageous stunt, and one liner, after the other biggrin.gif

I also saw the new National Treasure movie, which I really enjoyed as well. If you liked the first one, then you will like this one as well.

When you watch Shoot 'Em Up, you should just take it for what it is. It's an action-movie, and it doesn't even remotely try to be anything else.
It's like the writer thought 'God, I wanna write a movie that's truly all action. No excuses, just pure explosive, gun-slinging action.'. And I think he did it really well.

I watched the trailer for it just now, and god, I was frightened just by that. I have to see it, even if it means I can't sleep for a couple of years after. I mean Pan's Labyrinth was so awesome that I doubt this is going to be any worse.

Yeah, the Orphanage was pretty intense. Just so that you don't go into it with misconceptions it was produced by Guillermo del Toro but not directed by him. Still, the haunting child's point of view and fantasy themes present in Pan's Labyrinth and the Devil's Backbone have a strong presence here, and bring a richness to the movie that few "scary" movies have today.

I'm glad to see you enjoyed "No Country for Old Men" too. I think it stands out as one of the strongest films in the Coen Brother's oeuvre. I'm also a fan of Cormac McCarthy, and to see his novel translated to the screen with such careful attention to detail was refreshing!

Today I've taken the time to watch two great movies. The first one was 'The Assasination of Jesse James'. A really great movie, with a flawless Brad Pitt. When I think of it, there seems to be a new trend with slow-paced movies.

The second one was 'Eastern Promises'. It's really moving, and still so brutal. That David Cronenberg sure knows what he's doing. And Viggo Mortensen did a terrific role as the brutal 'undertaker', who's trying to climb the ladder in the russian mafia.

I just saw "he was a quiet man" starring christian slater in great makeup. I thought this movie was awesome, has anyone here seen it?

I say: Into The Wild. I haven't been so affected by a movie since 'Forrest Gump', and in my opinion the best movie of last year. God, it has every feeling.

I've got a lot of films to catch up on. I saw Juno (in advance for free but that's another story) a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it but I can't stand the main actress, partially because all I can think of is Hard Candy when I hear her voice. Everything else about the film was great though.

I'm glad you saw Into the Wild and liked it, I figured I might direct attention to my experience with it again since it's a good display of the cathartic healing power of art:

I saw this at the cinema. I went expecting it to be atrocious but was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn't go so far as to call it hilarious but it was definitely worth seeing.

I laughed so hard at the simon character in the beginning. when he leans into the bushes, pets the metal rooster and brings that leaf, holding it gentle in his hands while he's saying with the smoothest voice "Look, it's so beautiful".

Anyone seen The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters?

- M

Shooter - 9/10 - I'm a sucker for these types of movies, and Mark Wahlberg did a superb job here. I loved it.
The squid and the whale - 7/10 - Enjoyable
The History boys - 5/10 - Parts of it were good, but there were lots of loose ends all the time.

And now I need to see "No country for old men" and "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"
