Is it just me or is Matt the luckiest man alive? He's about as average as some guy at the mall selling televisions.

He's not really talented. He can't really "SING", he just has an interesting voice. Don't get me wrong, the vocals of The National are a huge draw for me. But when you think about it, he's basically up there talking, not really singing. Besides this, he can't play an instrument (I wish he could, another guitar up there could add a lot to a song here and there).

But why do I love him? He's kind of a genius. The songs he writes blow me away. Enough said there. Besides that, there's really not much to the guy. Thankfully he came together with some musicians who are able to turn his writings into some of the most powerful songs I've ever heard.

That's really all. Just a random thought.

He's a subtle genius, you got that one right.

Hmmm, Matt definitely is talented. First there's his lyrics, which are one of the main draws of the National to me.

If you're doubting his voice you should hear the end of Squalor Victoria live for proof he can sing, because he has hit those notes every time I've seen them. Singing the way that he does makes the National effective, because I can't think of another singer who can convey as much emotion as Matt does. Just listen to About Today, or Start A War, or Cardinal Song or...

Not entirely sure a third guitar would do that much for the National either to be honest. But besides that I agree with everything you say!

this! singing and lyricism are most definately talents. Just cause he's got a whiskey-soaked baritone doesnt mean its not a voice.

And his lyrics are off the scale genius.

Maybe when Matt feels a little down he comes here and fishes for compliments. Or, yeah, what you guys said. dry.gif
