Well hey there. I'm just following Mark and Beccy (above) from the Us Kids Know forum.

I'm also Irish, my name is Cian and I have yet to see The National live as a stand alone show but I have seen them at Oxegen and Latitude last year. Hopefully I'll catch more than one of the Dublin dates in May, The Olympia is a fantastic venue that I think would rather suit the band.

Nice to be aboard.

My name is Lee. I'm 22 from San Diego. My brother introduced me to The National last year. He gave me Boxer and I've been working backwards from there. I was excited to hear about them opening for REM as I am a casual fan of both Modest Mouse and REM. However, I got even more excited when I found out that they're playing a show at House of Blues in San Diego just days before the REM show.

And yes, I'm a total newbie here. I'll try not to ask any stupid questions. :-)

I'm almost 32 and from Germany. After some years into electronic music I finally came back to the indie stuff in early 2007. I was really hungry for "new" bands, e.i. bands I had missed throughout these years. I came in touch with Arcade Fire and thru the Us Kids Know site I was introduced to The National (They were announced as tour support). I went to the shop and I listened to Boxer. I immediately liked the voice of Matt Berninger, it reminded me to Nick Cave, the only artist I continously listened to since the early 90s. I bought Boxer that day, but it took me weeks to months to really understand and to fall in love with that album, with the lyrics, the drums, the arrangements, the atmosphere............. As often said, this album is a grower. And it is still growing, everyday a bit more. In the meantime I also bought Alligator and SSFDL and I also love these. To me The National is my personal discovery of 2007.

Hey all. I'm a total newbie but I've been listneing to Alligator and Boxer ad nauseum for the last few months. Absolutely love both. Can't decide which is better. have not hear the first two but I promise I will.

Favorite song at the moment (subject to constant change:) Mr. November

I'm 16 and I live in NY. Got introduced to The National through a music show on TV. Slipping Husband, Looking For Astronauts, and Mistaken for Strangers are my favorite songs. I also am a big fan of Clogs.

hi everyone i'm new to the board and just wanted to say hello, i got into the band around the time boxer was released and over the past year or so they have become one of my favorite bands...

oh and quick question to all of you long time fans, was their self titled album or "sad songs for dirty lovers" ever released on vinyl? i really haven't been able to find much information on their vinyl releases and would really like to purchase these if they are available... thanks ~ gay ballet

Welcome aboard. It has been reported elsewhere that vinyl reprintings are soon to occur:
so it says here.

Hello. I'm Olivia, seventeen, and from Indiana, USA. I started listening to The National late summer, early fall after I heard "Mistaken for Strangers" on the radio. My current favorite songs are probably "Mistaken for Strangers," "Baby, we'll be fine," and "Cardinal Song."

howdy! I'm Amanda, 18 and from Seattle. erm.... I first heard of The National from a half-page interview with Tom Smith from Editors about the last track he loved which was "Fake Empire" by The National. Long story short I fell madly in love and haven't been the same since!

I'd say what my favorite National song is, but I can't pick just one! Summed up I love Boxer and Alligator to bits, but I've been loving "Slow Show" loads lately... oh, fine, that's my favorite smile.gif

sorry for the ramble... I'll do my best to keep posting, but I've got two weeks left of my senior year of high school, so I'll be a wee bit swamped.

AND. Nationary is utterly brilliant biggrin.gif

Hi All. smile.gif

I am a *very* new TN fan. A few weeks ago, I was sitting at home with MTV2 on while I was making supper. I walked into the living room and saw a video that showed a band I've never seen before playing at a wedding. I actually LOVED the idea of the video, so I continued to watch it. I turned the volume up, and was blown away by how amazing the song was.
After reading the reviews on Amazon, I went out and picked up "Boxer". I was utterly amazed by how unbelievably good this band was that I had never heard of before! And when "Start A War" played, I fell in love.
I picked up their other CDs, and I absolutely LOVE them.
So, that's it, in a nutshell.
As far as my stats, I am a male, and I am probably painfully much, much older than most other people on this board (I'm 37). I live in Wisconsin, and I just feel utterly lost in life right now. But, luckily, I found this amazing band that can anchor me until things come back around.
Nice to meet all of you. smile.gif

I've been around for a couple months I think, but never really got around to introducing myself. Hi, I'm Bill.

I just got tickets to see the band with R.E.M. in Raleigh. Really excited about it! It'll be my first time seeing them live, so I'm really looking forward to hearing them play.
