I couldn't find out any info about Jens Ganman in english but I'll ask down at the library,

I read up on Slaughterhouse Five and it sounds quite good so I think I'm gonna get that next, I was amused to read that Kurt rated all his own books against each other in a magazine and both Slaughterhouse Five and Cat's Cradle got Grade A+'s. I'd been planning on reading Cloud Atlas but i'll maybe check out Black swan Green first

Yep... also great! I for one says it's better than 1984, but that's just me.

mr stephen- 04-02-2007
Good stuff, I loved 1984 so hopefully I should love this too, I've actually been meaning to read this for years so I'm a bit excited, gonna start reading it later tonight.

Ive also ordered Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five and I decided to read all David Mitchell's books in order so I've ordered in Number9dream...should keep me going for a while

mr stephen- 04-11-2007
I finished Alduos Huxley's Brave New World, I think I preferred 1984 to it coz it's a lot darker in some ways but it's still a very good read, I loved the character known as 'the savage' The world needs a savage..Im gonna read another one of his books sometime but he's got loads so if anyone wants to help me out and make my decision for me then feel very free and I will be very appreciative.

I got David Mitchell's number9dream today so I'm gonna start that tonight.

If you liked Brave New World, Aldous Huxley has a lot of early books which are really good--satires which are really funny, like Chrome Yellow, Antic Hay, and Those Barren Leaves; and a really good book (often considered his best) called Point Counter Point. He starts to veer off into mysticism after Brave New World if I remember correctly, with books like the Perennial Philosophy, an anthology of writings on mysticism, and of course The Doors of Perception, and Heaven and Hell, on his experiments with mescaline and LSD respectively. Overall I think he is a great writer!

I've been trying to read a lot of books from the "canon" of English lit, like Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, Alexander Pope, Jonathan Swift, Edmund Spenser, John Keats, Thomas Gray, Beowulf, etc. It is at times really a task but I've found that my knowledge of great literature is pretty lacking in a lot of areas.

Of newer writers I like Javier Marias, who is brilliant; Ian McEwan, Kazuo Ishiguro, WG Sebald, and Michael Ondaatje. I haven't read "Dog in the Nighttime" but have been meaning to.
Cheers,
Jordan

Me too - I'm about halfway through and I'm undecided whether I'm enjoying it or not.

haha
same here.

I have a horrible habit of just quitting in the middle of everything. Games and Books mostly.

unfortunatly it's happening with Haunted...

I was quite surprised to find out myself, I went through a phase of watching lots of Harvey Keitel movies when I was younger and I watched one called 'Smoke' which was a bit strange but in a cool way and it turns out that Paul Auster wrote the screenplay for that aswell.

i LOVE this movie. i can't remember whether or not i liked blue in the face.

back on topic: i just finished manhunt & am now reading selected tales from canterbury tales.

next up: cannery row

I love David Mitchell's Black Swan Green. It couldn't be more different than Cloud Atlas (which I enjoyed but GOSH what hard work!) Linear plot and everything. Whoo!

I also loved Black Swan Green, and I couldn't get into Cloud Atlas at all - well-written, but too much work for me.

Mark Haddon, the author of Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, has a second book called A Spot of Bother. It's very different from Curious Incident, but I loved it - although it didn't sell anything like the first one.
