How are all my countrymen/ladies feeling about this?
I'm going bazerk! Seeing them on the 17th in Brisbane, flying down to Sydney to see them on the 22nd, and managing to squeeze in an Arcade Fire show on the 21st!!
I dont think it gets any better than that!!

17th in Brisbane also. It's really awesome that it sold out, means more people are into them than i thought. If you wanna check out the support they're called Iron On, they're here if you don't hate myspace:
Big Day Out on the 20th for Arcade Fire, then Interpol in Feb and possibly Broken Social Scene + Stars also if i can find someone to go with.
Also this sounds like a stupid question but i've only just turned 18, haven't gone to any shows at small places like the zoo, so i was wondering if i'd be able to get a shirt there? I sure hope so eh.
Quite excited tbh

Nice one... i was gonna ask if anyone kew who the Brisbane support was
All the shows I've been to at The Zoo have still had the merchandise stand.. usually at the back wall to the left of the stage
You wont miss it though... very small place

GREAT show in Brisbane tonight!!!
Before the show I ran into Bryan Devendorf and had a bit of a chat with him. I asked him if they could play Lit Up for me. Very nice fella, was a pleasure to meet him.
The actually did play Lit Up! Bryan even gave me a personal dedication by name before the song!! Doesnt get much better than that!!!
The band were great... Padma was just brilliant... i'd go as far as to say he stole the show
Onto Sydney for me to see The National again & Arcade Fire!

Wow, that is awesome. I remember at the show in Norway, some guy in the audience was shouting "Lit Up" between each song, but they still didn't play it. Have fun at the next show as well

Cheers!
There were a lotta people calling out for Slipping Husband last night.. but got no love.
I cant stress enough how GREAT Padma was... especially at the end of About Today.. his little violin took some serious punishment!
Ocelot_Prince- 01-17-2008
Violin dude owned the show. Anyone else see what he was playing during Slow Show? It was like a keyboard that you blow into, best instrument i've seen in a long while.
The Racing Like A Pro solo was freaking incredible. His bow broke at the end of About Today, tried to play it with his fingers then just ditched the violin the find something else.
Blah what an awesome show

Seeing them tonight in Melbourne. Can't wait.
rachorelaxo- 01-19-2008
Agreed - Padma was fecking awesome!!
Savvvy- 01-19-2008
I though padma was good in some bits last night (melbourne) but a bit over the top in others. his solo in ada (i think) was awesome and the crowd gave him a massive cheer, but in the "rock outtro" of about today i thought the rock violin was a bit much. I would have liked to see a sombre end to about today rather than going all rock n roll. awesome gig though, and i loved the other mix ups of songs (drumless intro to baby we'll be fine was beautiful!). Would have gone again tonight but im broke.

couldnt disagree more with your Padma comment... I think the energy he brings to the stage MADE the show I went to... especially at the end of About Today... he got the biggest cheers from the Bris crowd
each to their own though
Sounds like the Melb show was great... good set list and everything...

Amazing second show in Melbourne in a packed and humid Corner Hotel. A first for the national - for the encore they all (bar Matt, who thought he'd luck stupid) came out wearing Fitzroy football club jerseys. For those outside Melbourne Fitzroy is a long defunct working class Australian Rules football club. Very strange - wish I'd had my camera.

Awesome show in Melb on Fri night, just wish I had got tickets to the Sat night show. Was lucky enough to have a chat to Matt and Padma after the show. Both really easygoing lovely guys.

Does anybody have the setlist for the first Melbs show? I'm the poor sucker who couldn't make it at the last minute.
So I rocked out to my black/white sessions instead. Not really the same thing at all but small compensation.

Sydney 23rd, I'm readin' straight from the setlist I nabbed:
Start A War Mistaken for Strangers Secret Meeting Brainy Baby, We'll Be Fine Slow Show Green Gloves Squalor Victoria Geese of Beverly Road Abel Racing Like A Pro Ada Apartment Story Daughters of the Soho Riots Fake Empire --- Gospel Mr. November About Today
Mild comedown from Arcade Fire last night (one of the legendary shows of my life).
Great show, sonically fantastic but that's due to the terrible venue - the least rock-show space for a rock-show you could think of. Bryan (I think) mentioned at some point that initially they were afraid of making noise in such a hushed space, as if it would be blasphemous. Just a big quiet modern theatre, all seated, with a lot of people clearly there because it was part of the Sydney Festival and they got their tickets this morning in the last-minute-cheap-sell-off 10 seconds after they first heard of the band.
The guys went to the beach today, so Matt's anecdote went, and the "liberally applied" suncream left him with a bizarre pattern of sunburn that resembled a treasure map. Later when he disappeared for a moment without anyone knowing where he'd gone, he came back and remarked that he'd found Bluebeard's treasure. "You have a different sun to the one we have in Brooklyn", he said.
Padma's sister was playing for a few tunes.
I would've liked City Middle or All The Wine but really, can't complain at all. I just hope they come back and play the Metro or somethin' next time. Seriously - a guy was going up the aisle selling tubs of ice cream. The silence between songs was excruciating. The lack of head-bopping was dismal!
