Im looking to buy a computer and I'm really interested in a Mac. I'm so sick of Windows now, enough with the bluescreens, reboots and BEEEPs. I could use some input though, which is what I'm looking for with this thread...

Im looking at the cheapest models right now... The MacBook 2,1 GHz (maybe the cheaper 2,4 aswell) and the iMac 2,4GHz.

Should I buy one of these or buy a PC/laptop instead? Pros and cons with mac's compared to PC's?

I'm not looking to play games at all, The computer will be used for Photoshopping and recording/mixing music. I'd rather have a laptop than a stationary, the reason I put the iMac up there is just that I'm worried the screen won't be enough.
So yeah, any input will be highly appreciated.

Almost everyone I know who uses computers for what you're using them for prefers a Mac. If I am ever in a position to get a new computer again, it will definitely be one of these. They are so much more user-friendly than a PC and it's not at all hard to switch over. My roommate has an iBook (I can't remember which one) and I've worked on it and it's really nice. Considering that it seems small, I didn't find the screen size to be a problem. Hope this is useful.

Plus there's the fact that if you have a mac you automatically look slightly artistic.

But yeah, I guess it's true... Apple has that artsy creative touch, which is a good thing=)

Yeah, thats what I've heard too - photo and music goes well with mac. I've never really got WHY, just that it is... The switch-over phase is definately one thing I'm a bit worried about so I'm glad to hear what you had to say about that!

Being serious now I've worked quite a bit using Macs and for the things you want it for they're great. I haven't used GarageBand but I've only heard good things about it and that there's nothing on the PC that's as good. I found iMovie in particular really easy to use and still advanced.

On the other hand, there is a lot of hardware as well as software that isn't compatible with Macs, but I can't see that lasting long. Probably five years ago I didn't know anyone with a Mac, and now it's probably 50/50 with PCs.

It's going really well for Apple these days, and I agree that we'll see alot more hardware and software will be compatible with Mac. I've also noticed how all my friends have Macs, although they usually have a PC and Mac. The latter often in the form of a MacBook.

Well, I'm of to buy some wine. After getting a haircut earlier this day, I had this sudden image of how I want to spend my summer in an Hemingway-esque style, with lots of sunsets and even more wine. biggrin.gif
