So my home PC has recently been getting bombed with spyware all of a sudden ... to the point where I'm getting the pop-ups disguised as web sites saying I need this and that virus scan. I use McAfee virus scan and used to have a subscription to SpySweeper but it has since expired.
So what should I get that's free?
I tried the free version of Ad-Aware and right in the middle of my scan it kept closing saying it lost its connection or some bullshit like that ... I tried XoftSpySE and once the scan was over and I tried to delete the infections it just sent me to the page saying I need to buy the "Pro" version ...
A friend of mine just requested SpyBot which is totally free so I'm downloading that now ... but any advice to the ole' board owner would be helpful.
Thanks

Weird that Ad-aware was screwing up on you. It's normally pretty reliable.
Spybot Search & destroy is definately worth a try.
Another I would recommend is AVG Anti-Spyware Free edition 7.5
You will sometimes get better results if after ensuring your anti-spyware product is bang up to date, restarting the PC in safe mode and running the app when the PC boots up.
Full virus scan wouldn't hurt any either.
Good luck.

Yeah. That search and destroy one works great
