For Rosemary and her query the other day...

Use DVD Audio Extractor. I've used it and it works well. Free for 30 days.

Oh man, I just got mine in the mail today (which was a pleasent surprise due to it being my birthday smile.gif) and I was just floored. It's brilliant. It wasn't as much a "making-of" or an "explaining-of" Boxer, as much as it was a compliment to Boxer, an epilogue maybe. I look at it as the 13th track that brings everything full circle and puts the album in a perspective I never would have noticed. I don't wanna ramble on too much (i personally hate it when people put advanced notions in my head about something).

As for Moon's style, it is very unique and he seems to know when to disorient us with his images and when to bring us right into focus on exactly what he wants. Again, brilliant. Thank you to everyone and anyone involved, and to who ever got it to my house 5 days before I was expecting it smile.gif

cheers

That's an excellent description.

Why thank you! Same as you, I was worried it might be too shaky and nauseating. Like an MTV music video by way of the Blair Witch Project. However, he pleasantly surprised me. The one scene near the end (slight spoilers maybe?!) when one of they guys, Bryce if I remember right, is talking about what the album might or might not become and Moon's hand was the steadiest and most straightforward I had seen it the whole time, almost has if saying "if you are going to take away one thing from my film, this is it, right here, right now." Very emotional.

He has some other good videos (including another excellent performance of About Today and a very interesting one of Thurston Moore playing one guitar note for about 4 minutes) on his website if you have not yet been.

£10 - ah, crap. I paid about £16 for mine in a shop in Dublin. To be fair I didnt pay much notice to the price as I was in too much of a hurry to buy it as I was so shocked to see it there.

Just watched it now, guess I'll need to watch it again. There wasnt as much with the band as I'd hoped and there was a lot of imagery which was metaphorical about the process of making the record and touring, which was all very nice and very arty but not enough of the band for my simple tastes!

Got a mail from InSound in the middle of this week, so I'm waiting impatiently for it to arrive. But it's a long way between Sweden and the U.S.

I watched it saturday night and I spent that night dreaming about it - I mean, the whole night... didn't get much sleep or rest.

I think I loved it... Yeah, I mean, it got stuck in my subconscious that way so it must mean I have strong feelings about it.
I need to see it again, probably tonight.

One thing I do know: most certainly I'd trade minutes of city wandering for more time around the guys and their creative process.

Loved that he ended it with "a reasonable man".

mhmunin- 05-19-2008
I personally don't mind the city wandering! wink.gif

I got the sense that the movie was more about letting the music and images do the talking for the band than the alternative. If it focused in on the interviews anymore I think it might lose something of its own personality. Just a thought.

The one thing I do know for sure is that Moon has done an excellent job of showing that music, or any art for that matter, is created through a process, it's not just born complete! The combination of A Skin, A Night and all of the material on the Virginia EP (even if we did already have a lot of the tracks) certainly allow a critical listener to hear Boxer in a new way.

As a side note, I just wanted to say that all of the folks at Beggars Group USA rock! I love ordering from them! (I'm not even getting paid to say this!)
