There's an article on Planet Sound today:

... a cover of Blind Zero's Without Permission

They're wrong...

It's this girl: http://www.myspace.com/carolinemartinsmalldog

so it should be this song: http://www.mtraks.com/artist/caroline_mart...hout_permission

That makes more sense. This sounds more like The National, than Blind Zero does.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. Jim Carroll has given the DVD release 4 stars in today's Irish Times. It's not a very insightful review but I'll post it anyway.

THE NATIONAL

A Skin, A Night

Beggars Banquet

Those seeking reasons why The National have become everyone's favourite indie band may find some clues on A Skin, A Night . It's an hour- long documentary directed by Vincent Moon, the French film-maker probably best known for his online Take-Away Shows featuring such acts as Arcade Fire, REM, Sufjan Stevens, The Shins and others performing in a variety of ad-hoc venues. Moon has past form with The National, so there is considerable empathy between director and subjects. Ostensibly, it's the story of a band making their new album (and much of the footage comes from the recording sessions for their last album, Boxer ), but Moon prefers to dwell on other aspects of the creative process and to delve into the psychology that keeps a group of individuals focused on a common goal for so long. The DVD also comes with The Virginia EP, a 13-strong selection of B-sides, demos and live tracks. www.americanmary.com

Most likely a typo I reckon. Appeared in the print version and online though....

How much did it cost you? I saw it for €18 in Zavvi and €19 in HMV - hoping it might be cheaper at the gig or else I'll pick it up in UK.

was 18.99

Got my hands on this yesterday and listened/watched last night.
Damn!
Only 2 songs new to me on the EP (I had missed out on Forever After Days) but nice to have high-quality versions, and I like the live versions, especially Lucky You.
The film is good, I wanted it to be longer. At first I was afraid there was going to be too much of the moving-camera, bad acid footage, which I find annoying at best and nauseating at worst, but it was used sparingly and to reasonably good effect. Overall I felt it was well done, a nice portrait of the band. It would be a great way to introduce people to the band but I don't know what the likelihood would be of people seeing it who aren't already fans of the band. They should show it as an after-school special or something.
I wish there was a soundtrack of the audio on the DVD, as I'd like to be able to listen to it.

There is freeware out there that will burn tracks of DVD's into audio files. I don't have the name of it in front of me but do at home and will post it later. I'm sure there are others on this board who can come up with something similar.

Thanks - unfortunately (or not) my DVD player *is* my computer. It's nice having all you tech-savvy folks as a resource though!
